Ethiopia has turned in to one of the most popular tourist destinations in Africa. It has overcome very challenging times and transformed into a country which is rapidly developing. I can definitely confirm that it’s a top spot to travel in and my favourite in the whole continent, so good I’m hoping to bring my mother back there this year.
The list of reasons to visit Ethiopia could go on and on, I have chosen to limit it to just 3 this time. I hope this sparks your interest and you book an adventure to the this awesome country as soon as possible.
A Visit To Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa is a rarity in Africa for me because usually I would advise avoiding the capital cities, that’s down to the fact that they are chaotic and there are so many more things to see outside. This vibrant capital city is well worth spending a few days in, it is laid back and is a great introduction to the country and people.
The Coffee Experience
If you think that people back home can’t live without coffee you haven’t seen anything yet because having a coffee in Ethiopia is actually a proper ceremony, yes it is really a ceremony. You’re supposed to do it every morning, noon and night – the preparation and drinking of the coffee is very carefully done. You will drink endless amount of coffee here, most likely more than 3 because locals are so friendly and inviting. I learnt how to make cold brew coffee in a french press after I got back from Ethiopia because I brought so much coffee back with me, you will too when you visit because it tastes amazing and there are so many different varieties.
The Simien Mountains
No holiday is complete without a bit of activity and there’s no better thing to do here than go hiking. People are often surprised that the country has mountains, but here they are big with peaks over 14500 feet. The train through the Simien mountains is easily the best. You will see loads of wildlife along the way such as; baboons, wolf and mountain goats. Ideal for exercise, great vies, the soul and body.
